As soon as the second character rejoins the fight, the first character is also free to leave if they wish. You can summon him to gain access to the fight from a longer range than normal. I recommend using Zombie Nick every time his owner re-enters the fight. A character must still have at least 1 action point left to flee, or else the game automatically passes turn. The fleeing character can then take as much time as they want healing up and getting back to the fight, since the other character can freeze the combat on their turn. Whenever a character gets low on hp (or surrounded by elementals), have them either flee the combat (the Escapist talent works well here), while the other character is still in combat. The fight is then easily won if both characters have a ranged weapon and a way to heal themselves on a cooldown (infinite use, not charged). At this point, you can deal reliable damage to him from pretty much any source (except water).
